Saudi Arabia’s Research, Development, and Innovation Authority (RDI) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with European clean-tech firm Stargate Hydrogen to accelerate green hydrogen innovation in the Kingdom. The agreement marks a major step toward strengthening Saudi Arabia’s role as a global hub for sustainable energy, in line with its Vision 2030 goals.

Under the partnership, Stargate Hydrogen will establish its new regional headquarters, Stargate Hydrogen KSA, in Riyadh. The move reflects Saudi Arabia’s growing appeal as a base for advanced clean energy technologies and highlights its strategy to diversify the economy through cutting-edge research, industrial decarbonization, and local capacity building.

Commenting on the signing, Dr. Yazeed, Executive Director of Institutional Funding and Acting Vice Governor for Ecosystem Development at RDI, said: “This partnership with Stargate Hydrogen underscores a shared commitment to advancing green hydrogen technologies. By fostering collaboration between global innovators and local institutions, we accelerate the Kingdom’s transition to sustainability while contributing to global clean energy progress.”

The MoU sets out several areas of cooperation:

  • Establishing a Riyadh-based headquarters dedicated to green hydrogen and deep-tech solutions.
  • Localizing Stargate Hydrogen’s proprietary technologies for deployment within Saudi Arabia.
  • Partnering with leading Saudi universities such as KAUST to generate homegrown intellectual property.
  • Collaborating with domestic manufacturers to build local production capacity for electrolyser technologies.

Through these initiatives, the partnership aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s hydrogen value chain and position the Kingdom at the forefront of the global green hydrogen economy. The agreement builds on Saudi Arabia’s growing momentum in sustainable energy development, reinforcing its ambition to lead the clean energy transition on both regional and international stages.
