SJVN Limited has announced that its 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project has successfully achieved a major milestone by generating 1 billion units (BU) of electricity as of March 20, 2026. This achievement reflects the company’s growing contribution to clean and sustainable energy supply in India.

The project is located in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan and is being managed by SJVN Green Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN. The solar project was developed under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme Phase II, Tranche III of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The foundation stone of this large-scale solar project was laid on January 3, 2023, by Droupadi Murmu in Jaipur. After completing construction, the project achieved its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on December 24, 2025, marking the beginning of its full-scale operations.

The 1,000 MW solar plant has been designed to deliver high-capacity power generation along with long-term environmental benefits. In its first year of operation, the project is expected to generate around 2,454.55 million units (MU) of electricity. Over a period of 25 years, the total power generation is projected to reach approximately 56 billion units.

Apart from electricity generation, the project will play an important role in reducing environmental impact. It is estimated to help cut carbon emissions by nearly 2.78 million tonnes during its operational life, supporting India’s climate goals and transition toward cleaner energy sources.

The project also offers affordable green energy, with a tariff fixed at ₹2.57 per unit. The electricity generated from this plant will be supplied to states including Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand, helping them meet their growing energy needs through renewable sources.

According to SJVN’s leadership, this milestone highlights the company’s strong technical capabilities and efficient execution. The management noted that such large-scale renewable projects are essential to achieve the Government of India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity. As a Navratna CPSE, SJVN continues to strengthen its role in ensuring energy security while promoting sustainable development across the country.
