South East Asia Weekly: Sabah Launches RM4,000 Rebate; MPA Installs 1,092 Solar Panels; Aboitiz Starts 239 MWp Solar; SIM Signs 14-Year Solar PPA; Marina South Goes Solar and More…

The Energy Commission of Sabah has introduced a RM4,000 residential rooftop solar rebate programme to accelerate rooftop solar adoption across the state. The initiative aims to reduce upfront installation costs, encourage households to transition to renewable energy, and support Malaysia’s broader clean energy ambitions. By making solar systems more affordable, the programme is expected to increase residential participation, reduce electricity expenses, and contribute to Sabah’s long-term sustainability goals.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has installed 1,092 solar PV panels at Marina South Pier as part of its clean energy strategy. The rooftop installation will generate renewable electricity for port operations while reducing carbon emissions and supporting Singapore’s decarbonisation roadmap. The project demonstrates the growing adoption of solar energy within maritime infrastructure and reinforces Singapore’s commitment to sustainable port operations.

Aboitiz Renewables has commenced construction of the 239 MWp Luna Solar Project, integrated with a 65 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Philippines. The project will strengthen renewable energy supply, improve grid reliability, and enhance energy flexibility through integrated storage. It marks another major milestone in the Philippines’ clean energy transition and reinforces Aboitiz’s expanding renewable energy portfolio.

Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) has partnered with Peak Energy to install rooftop solar under a 14-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The agreement enables SIM to source renewable electricity without upfront capital investment while reducing operational emissions and advancing its sustainability commitments. The project highlights the growing popularity of long-term PPAs for commercial rooftop solar deployment in Singapore.

Singapore’s Marina South Pier has completed the installation of 1,092 solar panels, supporting greener maritime operations and reducing the facility’s environmental footprint. The project contributes to Singapore’s national sustainability targets by integrating renewable energy into critical port infrastructure. It demonstrates how solar PV is becoming an essential component of sustainable maritime operations across Southeast Asia.

LOF International Dairy Factory has commissioned a 5 MWp rooftop solar project to strengthen its ESG strategy and reduce carbon emissions. The installation will help offset electricity consumption with renewable energy while supporting the company’s long-term sustainability objectives. The project reflects increasing adoption of rooftop solar among industrial and manufacturing facilities across Southeast Asia.

The Emerging Africa & Asia Infrastructure Fund (EAAIF) has committed up to US$50 million to Ukko Renewable for the development of a 2 GW clean energy pipeline across Southeast Asia. The investment will accelerate utility-scale renewable energy deployment while supporting regional decarbonisation and long-term energy security. The funding highlights growing investor confidence in Southeast Asia’s renewable energy market.

Real Madrid has partnered with Elite Solar to promote solar energy adoption and sustainability on a global scale. The collaboration combines the global reach of one of football’s most recognised clubs with Elite Solar’s renewable energy expertise to raise awareness of clean energy solutions. The partnership highlights the growing role of sports organisations in advancing sustainability and climate action.
