At the upcoming Renewable Energy India Expo (REI), Sungrow will introduce its latest-generation SG510HX grid-forming utility-scale inverter to the Indian market.
As utility-scale solar projects continue to expand, the ability of power plants to operate stably under weak-grid conditions has become increasingly important. At the same time, projects need to comply with the latest grid codes and regulatory requirements without compromising performance.
As a leading brand in India’s utility-scale PV market, Sungrow continues to optimize its products to address these evolving requirements. Equipped with advanced grid-forming technology, the SG510HX is designed to address these challenges and deliver greater value to customers. The new inverter can help reduce CAPEX, increase energy yields, enhance grid stability and reduce O&M requirements, providing an advanced solution for project developers and EPC companies.
The SG510HX adopts a 1,000 V AC system. Its high-power design can reduce the number of inverters required for a project while bringing BOS costs down to as low as US$0.18/W.
The inverter also features AI-based intelligent power allocation, enabling active power output at full capacity to maximize energy generation. With support for plant-level configuration, grid parameters can be adjusted remotely with a single click. The solution can enable grid connection up to five days earlier, potentially generating an additional 75 million kWh of electricity.
The SG510HX integrates both grid-forming and grid-following control algorithms, allowing seamless switching between operating modes without shutting down the inverter.
During grid-connected operation, its grid-forming capability helps suppress frequency and voltage fluctuations at the point of interconnection, improve grid stability and enhance the system’s resilience to grid fluctuations, while helping reduce project delivery time and costs.
In remote areas where isolated grids operate independently from the main grid, grid stability can be particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in electricity demand, potentially resulting in power outages. In grid-forming mode, the SG510HX supports black start, enabling the inverter to operate as a voltage source and provide grid support to help restore and maintain a stable power supply.
In terms of safety, compared with conventional trip-switch solutions, Sungrow’s dual-redundant architecture combining a mechanical switch and an IGBT provides enhanced protection on the DC side, further improving system safety and reliability.
Commenting on the new SG510HX, Mr. Sunil Badesra, CEO of Sungrow India, said “Sungrow is committed to the long-term reliability of our products, as this is essential to delivering lasting value to our customers. The integration of grid-forming technology marks an important advancement, and contributing to the stability of India’s power grid is an important way our products support the energy transition.”
Looking ahead, Sungrow remains committed to bringing more reliable green energy solutions to the Indian market and supporting the continued development of India’s renewable energy sector.
