Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) leader Teleperformance (TP) Philippines has reinforced its commitment to sustainability, reporting that 60% of its nationwide energy consumption now comes from renewable sources. The milestone aligns with the company’s long-term environmental goals, as it continues to expand its green initiatives across the country.

Major Energy Savings and Carbon Footprint Reduction

As of September 2024, TP Philippines has successfully saved 35.8 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy, significantly cutting its carbon footprint. This reduction is equivalent to:

The emissions from 5,598 gasoline-powered vehicles driven for a year

The carbon absorption of 396,806 tree seedlings grown for a decade

The annual carbon budget of approximately 18,460 individuals

Rahul Jolly, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TP Philippines, highlighted the significance of the company’s shift to clean energy.

“Shifting to renewable energy is a major step toward our goal of reducing our environmental impact and building a sustainable future. We’re committed to expanding our renewable energy initiatives, believing that by working together, we can create a healthier planet for generations to come.”

Global Commitments and Climate Action

TP Group has set Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-aligned emission reduction goals, ensuring that its sustainability efforts contribute to limiting global warming to 1.5°C. The company is also one of the first 100 signatories of The Climate Pledge, committing to carbon neutrality by 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement target.

As part of its sustainability mission, TP collaborates with One Tree Planted, a non-profit reforestation initiative. Under this partnership, the company has contributed over US$500,000 to global tree-planting efforts. In the Philippines, TP is restoring 400 hectares in Aurora province, creating a safe habitat for the endangered Philippine Eagle while supporting local communities.

Sustainability Achievements and Site-Specific Initiatives

TP’s Sucat site became the first company facility to operate on 100% clean energy, paving the way for broader adoption of renewable power. Other key sustainability milestones include:

CO2 Emissions Reduction: TP’s Sucat and Bacolod sites achieved carbon reductions of 2,033 and 2,729 metric tons, respectively.

Green Workforce Mobility: A 2023 employee commuting survey assessed ways to reduce transport-related emissions.

Volunteer-Led Sustainability Efforts: TP’s Davao and Cebu teams are actively involved in beach cleanups, relief operations, and school repair projects.

Cloud Campus Hubs in General Santos and Laoag contribute to nationwide climate action programs.

In 2024, TP also achieved an additional 1,495 metric tons of carbon reduction through its Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Upgrade Activity. The company’s environmental efforts have been recognized with ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management Systems and ISO 45001 certification for Occupational Health and Safety from Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS).

Earth Hour Participation and Future Roadmap

TP continues to engage in Earth Hour, observing an annual hour-long lights-off initiative that has resulted in 27,123 kWh of energy savings, preventing 19.2 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

Jeffrey Johnson, Chief People Officer and President of the Citizen of the World (COTW) Foundation at TP Philippines, reaffirmed the company’s sustainability mission.

“Our commitment has always been to be a Force for Good for people, communities, and the environment. Sustainability is not just good for business—it is the right thing to do. We will continue to invest and advocate for a greener, safer, and healthier world for everyone.”

TP Philippines remains committed to environmental stewardship, actively collaborating with government agencies and environmental organizations to implement long-term sustainability initiatives.
