Terrawatt, a renewable energy start-up based in Rome, has begun the first construction phase of its portfolio of photovoltaic projects, marking an important milestone in the company’s development. With a pipeline of about 250 MW of solar PV capacity under progress across Italy, Terrawatt is preparing to deliver its first operational plant in Monte San Vito, located in the province of Ancona. Construction of the facility is scheduled to begin by the end of this year.

The Monte San Vito project will have an installed capacity of just under 1 MWp and will generate enough clean electricity to prevent approximately 540 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. Over its 30-year operational lifespan, the plant is expected to offset around 16,200 tonnes of carbon emissions. Operations are planned to commence in the second quarter of 2026.

Patrick Donati, Founder of Terrawatt, said in a statement, “Securing approval and moving into construction — even in the challenging context of a site located near an airport — confirms the strength of our approach. It shows our ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks while delivering high-quality renewable infrastructure. Terrawatt is a dynamic and ambitious company. In just three years we have created a solid team capable of developing hundreds of megawatts of renewable energy projects. And this is only the beginning — we have big plans for growth in the years ahead.”

Founded in 2022, Terrawatt has rapidly established a strong foundation for growth within Italy’s renewable energy sector. The Monte San Vito facility will serve as the company’s first operational project and marks the beginning of its next phase of expansion, which includes construction, grid connection, and the finalization of power purchase agreements (PPAs).

These achievements will pave the way for Terrawatt’s broader portfolio of solar projects currently moving through various permitting and development stages. With its first plant soon underway, the company is positioning itself as an emerging player in Italy’s renewable energy transition, contributing to the country’s efforts to expand clean power generation and reduce carbon emissions.
