In 2015, the United Nations introduced the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), urging every nation to work towards economic development while also protecting the environment. As the world marks the 10th anniversary of these goals, Trinasolar is contributing to this vision by developing practical and sustainable solar solutions that create measurable impact. Through its efforts in rural development, ecological conservation, and global collaboration, the company is helping communities transition to cleaner energy and a more sustainable future.
Trinasolar is addressing SDG 1: No Poverty by supporting rural economies with renewable energy. In 2024, the company supplied Vertex modules and energy storage systems for a 150 MW aquavoltaics project. This initiative generated 163 million kWh of electricity, exceeding initial projections, and provided stable financial returns. Beyond energy production, it improved water quality, strengthened fisheries, and boosted farmers’ incomes, showing how clean energy can deliver both economic growth and ecological benefits at the same time.
To advance SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, Trinasolar is making renewable power more reliable and accessible worldwide. One example is the One-Gigawatt Source-Grid-Load-Storage Project, which combines wind, solar, and storage technologies in a desert environment. Equipped with 800 MW of Trinasolar’s Vertex series modules, the project produces a stable supply of low-cost electricity while also contributing to land restoration. By demonstrating how green power can meet daily utility needs and restore ecosystems, Trinasolar is proving that renewable energy can serve as a foundation for sustainable living.
For SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, Trinasolar is setting new benchmarks in sustainable manufacturing. Its production plants have been recognized as National Green Factories, and its Yiwu facility received the 2023 Zero-carbon Factory (Type I) Four-star Certificate in 2024. Since 2020, the company has reduced greenhouse gas emissions intensity by over 65%, cut energy consumption intensity by more than 40%, and lowered water consumption intensity by almost 68%. These milestones highlight its commitment to resource efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and greener operations across the photovoltaic industry.
In alignment with SDG 15: Life on Land, Trinasolar integrates ecological protection into its projects. In New Zealand, the Te Herenga o Te Rā solar project is designed to safeguard farmland, enabling both crops and livestock to coexist alongside clean energy generation. The company has also invested in reforestation, with the Trina Forest project in Spain helping restore natural habitats and strengthen biodiversity.
To support SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, Trinasolar actively collaborates with organizations and global networks. The company is a member of the United Nations Global Compact and the Global Solar Sustainable Alliance (GSSA), working with international partners to speed up the adoption of clean energy solutions. Beyond these initiatives, Trinasolar is committed to contributing to all of the UN’s SDGs. It has taken steps to support quality education, promote gender equality, and strengthen climate action, while continuing to expand its sustainability-driven innovations.
