Trinasolar Unveils i-TOPCon Ultra Technology, with Cell Efficiency of 26.58%

Dr. Yifeng Chen, Vice President at Trinasolar, a global leader in smart PV andnenergy storage solutions, has vaunted the prowess of the company’s i-TOPCon Ultra technology at a conference in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province in China.

“The technology combines passivating contacts, mitigating optical parasitic absorption, and ultra-fine line printing technology, achieving an efficiency of 26.58% in the laboratory , surpassing 26.5% for the first time in the history of TOPCon cells”, Chen said in a keynote speech at the China SoG Silicon and PV Power Conference on November 22.

Trinasolar, an early mover with n-type technology, has constantly led the way in i- TOPCon technology. In November the company announced that it had set a world record for the 28th time, with its industrial larger-area n-type bifacial i-TOPCon solar cells achieving 26.58% efficiency, certificated by the calibration center in the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin, Germany. The open-circuit voltage of 744.6mV demonstrates the exceptional passivation quality of the cell, reinforcing the immense potential for future efficiency gains within TOPCon technology, Chen said.

The company announced recently that its industrial larger-area 210×182mm² n-type bifacial i-TOPCon cell has achieved efficiency of 25.9%, breaking a record set seven years ago by the Fraunhofer ISE in Germany.

The launch of i-TOPCon Ultra heralds a new chapter in the evolution of TOPCon technology since it sets the stage for substantial gains in both efficiency and power output, ushering in an exciting new phase for the industry. With this technology, Trinasolar’s Vertex N modules will undergo a significant upgrade, with power increases of up to 40W. For example, the 2382×1134mm medium-size module will boast remarkable efficiency of 24.8% and maximum power output of 670W. i-TOPCon Ultra boosts cell efficiency by more than 1%, and module power rises by up to 40W.

As we enter the era of tandem cells, the synergy of TOPCon and perovskite tandem technology will be a powerful force, ensuring that TOPCon maintains its dominant position as a mainstream technology, Chen said.
