U-Solar Strengthens Clean Energy Efforts in Healthcare with Commissioning of Kerala’s First 8.5 MW Group Captive Solar Plant

USolar Kasargod

U-Solar Clean Energy Solutions has successfully commissioned an 8.5 MW group captive solar power plant for Aster DM Healthcare Limited in Kasargod, Kerala. The landmark project represents a major step forward in promoting sustainable energy use within the Indian healthcare sector.

Designed as a single-phase development, the solar facility employs advanced mono PERC technology and is expected to generate approximately 14.03 million units (kWh) of clean energy annually. This initiative is projected to offset nearly 11,590 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, significantly reducing the environmental impact of Aster’s operations.

The group captive model chosen for this project allows Aster DM Healthcare—one of the region’s premier healthcare providers—to directly participate in solar energy production while gaining energy cost savings and long-term energy reliability. The plant enhances the organization’s sustainability profile and supports its broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives.

Speaking on the occasion, K. R. Harinarayan, CEO of U-Solar, remarked “The successful commissioning of the 8.5 MW group captive solar project for Aster DM Healthcare marks a major step in advancing clean energy in the healthcare sector. It supports our vision for a sustainable future while helping Aster DM reduce its carbon footprint and enhance energy resilience. We’re especially proud to have delivered Kerala’s first group captive solar project—setting a strong precedent for many more to follow and leading the way in the state’s clean energy journey.”

Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder & Chairman, Aster DM Healthcare, said, “The successful commissioning of Aster’s large-scale solar park marks a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainable healthcare. As one of the country’s leading healthcare providers, Aster recognises the urgent need to reduce our environmental footprint while maintaining operational excellence. This solar park reflects our commitment of integrating clean energy into our infrastructure, ensuring energy security, long-term cost efficiency, and a reduced carbon impact. It is a step forward in aligning our values with global sustainability goals and setting a benchmark for green practices in the healthcare sector.”

The project was executed over a period of 18 months, from development through to commissioning, showcasing U-Solar’s ability to deliver large-scale renewable energy projects with efficiency and precision. The company’s strong project management and engineering capabilities were instrumental in meeting all timelines and quality benchmarks.

With this commissioning, U-Solar continues to expand its footprint in the group captive solar segment and reaffirms its dedication to supporting India’s transition to cleaner energy. This project underscores the growing alignment between the healthcare sector and renewable energy solutions—an alignment that will be vital in meeting India’s decarbonisation goals.
