Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) has announced the successful transformation of its layer chicken complex in Chanthaburi province into a 100% Renewable Energy (RE100) model farm, marking a significant step toward its Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions target by 2050.

The upgrade is part of CP Foods’ broader Agri-Tech strategy to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across its Feed, Farm, and Food operations. The company’s RE100 initiative plays a central role in its sustainable development roadmap, aiming to enhance long-term energy resilience while reducing environmental impacts.

Previously, the Chanthaburi farm operated with approximately 80% renewable energy, primarily generated from biogas derived from chicken manure. Following new developments, the farm now operates entirely on renewable energy through the integration of solar power and optimized biogas generation systems. This achievement earned CP Foods its first “RE100 Farm” certification from LRQA (Thailand), positioning it as the company’s flagship green facility. The project embodies the company’s “Waste to Value” approach by converting agricultural waste into clean energy and eliminating external pollution.

Somkid Wannalukkhee, Head of the Egg Business at CP Foods, stated that the farm’s integrated production system — which combines layer barns, automated egg grading, and processing facilities at a single site — enhances operational efficiency, reduces logistics costs, and ensures high food safety standards. He also highlighted that biogas systems have been implemented across all CP Foods farms, with efforts underway to adopt 100% renewable energy usage across all operations.

Peerapong Krinchai, Head of Corporate Engineering at CP Foods, added that in 2023, the Chanthaburi farm installed an additional 360 kWp rooftop solar power system by Altervim, coupled with a smart Energy Management System (EMS). This technology enables efficient energy sourcing between biogas and solar power, further reducing the farm’s reliance on external energy supplies and strengthening energy self-sufficiency.

Currently, the farm offsets more than 16,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to planting over 1.7 million trees.

Looking ahead, CP Foods plans to replicate the RE100 farm model across its operations nationwide as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and its Net-Zero 2050 objective.
