The foundation ceremony of the 100 MW Nawa Solar Power Project in Rajasthan was recently held, marking a significant step towards India’s renewable energy goals. The project is being developed by SJVN through its renewable energy subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), and is located in Nawa, District Didwana Kuchaman, Rajasthan. The event was attended by several prominent dignitaries. These included the Governor of Rajasthan, Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde; the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma; the Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw; and the Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Other notable guests were also present at the ceremony. Senior officials of SJVN participated virtually, including Chairman and Managing Director (Additional Charge) Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Projects) Shri Sushil Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel) Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma, and Director (Finance, Additional Charge) Shri Rajendra Prasad Goyal. Officials from both SJVN and SGEL were present at the ceremony held in Bikaner. The solar project, which is being implemented at a cost of ₹415 crore, is part of SJVN’s ongoing efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio. The project is expected to be commissioned by 31st December 2025.

Upon completion, it will generate approximately 254.51 million units of electricity in the first year and around 5850 million units over its lifetime of 25 years. The electricity generated will be supplied to RUVITL at a tariff rate of ₹2.62 per unit. In addition to its energy output, the project will also have a positive environmental impact. It is estimated to reduce over 2.86 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions over 25 years, contributing to India’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070. The project is also expected to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities in the surrounding region.

SJVN is also undertaking several community development activities in the areas surrounding the project site. These include initiatives aimed at improving education, access to drinking water, sanitation, healthcare services, and promoting women’s empowerment. SJVN is a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The company has commissioned thirteen power projects with a total installed capacity of 2786.5 MW and 123 kilometers of transmission lines. It is currently involved in the operation and development of power projects across India and in neighboring Nepal.
