Milestone Achieved: First HPBC 2.0 Distributed PV Power Plant Now Operational On The Grid

A new photovoltaic (PV) power plant at Longfei Wood Products Factory in Yichun, Heilongjiang Province, China, has officially started commercial operations. This is the first HPBC 2.0 distributed PV power plant to be connected to the grid. Yichun, known as “The Forest Capital of China,” has an impressive forest coverage of 84.8% and a forestry area of 40,000 square kilometers. It serves as a major hub for the timber industry. The wood products factory uses power-intensive equipment like sawmills, planers, and cutting machines, which require a lot of electricity and lead to high operational costs.

The PV power plant at Longfei Wood Products Factory has a capacity of 2.2 MW and uses LONGi’s advanced HPBC 2.0 dual-glass PV modules with a power output of 630W each. It generates 3.2 million kWh of electricity annually, supplying power to the factory and earning 1.2 million RMB in electricity sales each year. LONGi’s HPBC 2.0 modules are highly efficient, producing 110,000 kWh more annually than a TOPCon PV power plant of the same capacity—a 3.56% increase. These modules also boost installed capacity by 5% within the same surface area and deliver an 8.56% improvement in power generation.

The project maximized power generation and cost efficiency by using high-performance PV modules and tailored construction solutions. It opted for ground-mounted installations at the best tilt angle to absorb the most solar radiation, boosting efficiency. This approach generates 25% more power compared to flat rooftop installations while reducing maintenance efforts and operational costs.

In November 2022, LONGi introduced its HPBC 1.0 cell technology, marking the beginning of the BC era. After reaching 20 GW in sales, LONGi advanced to HPBC 2.0, which addresses key challenges in cell substrates, passivation, and manufacturing processes. HPBC 2.0 achieves over 26.6% efficiency in mass production, making it the most efficient PV cell technology available today. It uses LONGi’s high-quality TaiRay silicon wafers to minimize cell degradation and features a unique bipolar composite passivation technology that delivers an open circuit voltage above 745 mV. This innovation reduces current loss and further boosts conversion efficiency.

HPBC 2.0 modules outperform TOPCon modules in durability and efficiency, offering better resistance to UV, damp heat, and thermal cycling. With a temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C—an improvement of 0.03%/°C over TOPCon—these modules excel in harsh conditions like the freezing winters of Heilongjiang, where temperatures in Yichun drop to -30°C. The first HPBC 2.0 PV power plant in Yichun marks a shift from a timber-based economy to a greener, more sustainable future.

It also sets the stage for similar projects across the country, demonstrating the vast potential of HPBC 2.0 distributed PV systems. LONGi continues to collaborate with partners to deliver high-quality PV solutions for commercial and industrial use. These power plants highlight the benefits of BC technology, including increased power generation, reliability, long-lasting durability, and sleek aesthetics—providing sustainable energy solutions for over 30 years.
