MET Group Commissions Its First-Ever Solar Park In Germany, Marking Entry into Country’s Renewable Market

Swiss-based energy company MET Group has officially commissioned and begun commercial operations at its first solar power plant in Germany. The Kentzlin solar park, located in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is now generating renewable electricity for the German power grid.

The plant has an installed capacity of 11.5 megawatt-peak (MWp) and is expected to produce around 13 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. This is enough to supply power to approximately 3,600 households in Germany each year. The successful commissioning of the Kentzlin solar park represents a key milestone in MET Group’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio.

MET acquired the Kentzlin project in 2023 and has since led the entire development process, from securing a successful bid in Germany’s EEG tender process to overseeing construction and ensuring on-time delivery. The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work was carried out by IBC SOLAR, MET Group’s trusted partner and a well-established provider of solar energy solutions.

Christian Hürlimann, CEO of Renewables Development at MET Group, mentioned,“Bringing Kentzlin into operation is a major achievement for MET’s renewables activities and a key step in our strategy to grow in Western Europe. Germany is one of Europe’s most competitive and mature markets, and this project is a strong foundation for further investments.”

This marks MET Group’s first operational renewable energy asset in Germany and supports the company’s efforts to diversify its energy portfolio. MET is already active in the German natural gas and electricity markets, with business operations that include underground gas storage, LNG imports, and energy supply for both industrial and residential users. The launch of its solar power operations further demonstrates MET’s commitment to contributing to Europe’s energy transition and strengthening its position in the German energy sector.
