From Walls to Wearables: Waaree Makes Every Surface Solar-Ready

Waaree Energies Ltd., India’s leading solar module manufacturer, today announced the launch of its next-generation Flexible Light-Weight (FLW) solar modules. Designed for surfaces where traditional glass panels cannot be installed, these innovative modules enable solar adoption across curved metro facades, petrol pump canopies, roadside barriers, street furniture, railway infrastructure, walls, and urban rooftops with limited load capacity.

The new FLW modules are up to 70% lighter than conventional glass panels, less than 3.5 mm thin, and require only ~8 kg/m² roof strength. They can be bonded directly to surfaces without mounting penetrations, making them ideal for sites where drilling or heavy support structures are not feasible. Select models deliver up to 500 W output with ~18% module efficiency, featuring an ETFE frontsheet, IP67 junction box, and proven low-light performance—well-suited for dense city landscapes and transportation infrastructure.

“Cities and critical infrastructure need solar that adapts to them—not the other way around. Our flexible platform expands where solar can be installed, cuts BOS complexity, and accelerates decarbonization across India’s most challenging sites,” said Mr. Nilesh Malani, Chief Marketing Officer & BU Head – Special Modules, Waaree Energies Ltd.

Why Waaree Flexible Wins

  • Lighter, thinner, faster: Up to 70% lighter, ~3.2 mm laminate, 22 mm with J-box—cutting steel, ballast, and labor.
  • Bonded, not bolted:No roof penetrations and minimal hardware reduce leak risk and O&M on membranes.
  • Tough by design:ETFE frontsheet, IP67 junction box; strong low-light performance for urban canyons and low-sun angles.
  • Scalable SKUs: 84/125/250/500 W modules support distributed layouts across irregular footprints and curves.

Key Applications:

  • Street Lighting & IoT: Wrap-on solar for poles and smart devices; light, durable, off-grid ready.
  • Metros & Transit: Fits curved station roofs and shelters where glass panels can’t.
  • Petrol Pumps: No-drill installs on canopies; faster, safer, and leak-free.
  • Railways: Light modules for coach roofs and stations; proven in Indian pilots.
  • Defence: Portable, rugged power for vehicles, shelters, and remote bases.
  • Real Estate: Solar for heritage facades, curved rooftops, and BIPV projects.
  • Solar Decks: Slim, walk-friendly panels for pergolas and rooftop leisure spaces.
  • BIPV: Conformable skins for façades, atria, and curved buildings.
  • E-commerce: DIY 84–500 W panels for vans, boats, terraces, and farm assets.
  • Agrivoltaics: Greenhouse-ready laminates that balance crops with clean power.
  • Roadside Barriers: Noise barriers that double up as solar power plants.
  • C&I Roofs: Bonded, ultra-light modules for warehouses and industrial sheds.

Waaree’s flexible solar modules mark a new chapter in making energy accessible anywhere, on any surface. From infrastructure to agriculture, and from cities to remote outposts, these innovations bring solar closer to everyday life—advancing the global transition to a resilient, low-carbon future.
