EDP Renewables Launches 10 MWp Monti Di Eboli Solar Park In Salerno, Italy, Blending Clean Energy And Livestock Farming To Produce 17 GWh Annually For 6,500 Households

EDP Renewables has inaugurated the Monti di Eboli solar park in Salerno, Italy, marking its first project in Europe that combines solar energy generation with livestock farming. The facility has an installed capacity of 10 megawatts peak (MWp) and produces more than 17 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity each year. This amount of energy is sufficient to meet the annual needs of approximately 6,500 households while reducing over 7,200 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade, EDP’s CEO, said in a statement, “For us, innovation is not just about producing clean electricity, but about creating energy solutions that integrate with local economies, protect natural resources, and generate long-term value for communities. By combining advanced solar technology with sustainable land use, EDP is showing how the energy transition can be achieved in harmony with agriculture and rural development.”

Beyond generating renewable power, the solar park also promotes sustainable land use by integrating livestock farming within the site. Around 250 sheep graze in the area, helping to naturally maintain the land and vegetation around the solar panels. This initiative reflects EDP Renewables’ commitment to combining modern energy solutions with traditional agricultural practices, ensuring environmental preservation and efficient land management.
