Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia commended PLN’s preparations to secure electricity supply during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru) celebrations. During a site visit to the Suralaya Steam Power Plant (PLTU) , Bahlil expressed satisfaction with the plant’s operational readiness.

“We reviewed the Suralaya plant in Cilegon, which has a capacity of 3,400 MW. Everything is functioning well,” said Bahlil. He emphasized the Ministry’s efforts to ensure power plants and primary energy supplies remain sufficient during the festive season.

Addressing potential challenges, Bahlil highlighted contingency measures for bad weather. “Two variables are critical: fuel transportation, with a 23-day reserve secured, and network stability. Mitigation plans are in place, and I am confident the teams from PLN and the Ministry have prepared thoroughly,” he added.

Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, affirmed the utility’s commitment to providing reliable and safe electricity during Nataru. “We have ensured that PLN’s electricity system is in normal condition with adequate power reserves. Tens of thousands of personnel, equipped with complete tools, are ready to ensure the public can celebrate comfortably,” Darmawan said.

Edwin Nugraha Putra, President Director of PLN Indonesia Power, detailed the readiness of the Suralaya PLTU, a critical component of the Java, Madura, and Bali (Jamali) electricity backbone. “The Suralaya PLTU meets 10% of Jamali’s electricity needs with a net capacity of 3,221.6 MW. To maintain reliability, 484 standby personnel are on site, equipped with the necessary tools and safety gear,” he explained.

The Suralaya PLTU has also advanced its sustainability efforts by implementing a co-firing program to reduce carbon emissions. “Since 2021, the co-firing initiative has generated 538 GWh of electricity, with 175.93 GWh produced in 2024 alone. This program accelerates Indonesia’s energy transition,” Edwin noted.

PLN’s proactive measures aim to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the holidays, reflecting its commitment to public convenience and sustainable energy solutions.
