Siemens Emerges as Sole Bidder for 400kV Substation Project in Bahrain

Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has announced Siemens as the sole bidder for the construction of a new 400kV grid substation in the Sitra Industrial Area. The project is a key component of Bahrain’s Independent Water and Power Plant (IWPP) initiative.

According to a notification from Bahrain Tenders, the project scope includes the design, manufacturing, supply, transportation, erection, testing, and commissioning of the substation. The substation will feature advanced infrastructure, including a 400kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), 220kV GIS, 21kV switchgear, and integrated control, protection, and industrial control systems (ICS).

The contract also encompasses civil works and building services for the substation, including the installation of CCTV and electronic access control systems to ensure security and operational efficiency.

This development reflects Bahrain’s commitment to advancing its energy infrastructure, leveraging state-of-the-art technology to meet growing power demands in industrial and residential sectors.
