Saudi Arabia’s National Energy Services Company (Tarshid) has announced a collaboration with Al Amal Mental Health Hospital (Irada) to implement an energy efficiency initiative aimed at reducing energy consumption across 19 buildings in the hospital’s Al Qurayyat campus. This partnership seeks to optimize energy use in line with international best practices.

The project is expected to reduce the hospital’s annual electricity consumption by 20%, from 4.5 million kilowatt-hours to 3.7 million kilowatt-hours. This reduction will lead to savings of more than 1,500 barrels of oil equivalent and a decrease of 500 metric tons in carbon emissions. The carbon savings are roughly equivalent to planting over 9,000 trees annually.

Waled Al Ghreri, CEO of Tarshid, emphasized that the initiative follows thorough on-site surveys and technical studies, which led to the identification of 10 key energy-saving measures. These measures focus on optimizing air conditioning systems, lighting, and control systems across the buildings.

The improvements will include upgrading the chiller control system, implementing air handling unit scheduling, and installing variable frequency drives (VFDs) to enhance system performance. The outdated air conditioning chillers will be replaced with energy-efficient models, and the building management system will be integrated with new cooling and AC systems to ensure optimal performance.

In addition, the lighting systems will be revamped with high-performance, energy-efficient LED lights, combined with occupancy sensors and smart motion detectors to further reduce energy consumption.

Founded in 2017, Tarshid plays a key role in advancing Saudi Arabia’s sustainability goals by integrating energy efficiency solutions, operational improvements, and clean energy technologies. The project aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which focuses on achieving substantial energy savings and reducing carbon emissions.
