Companies embarking on carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects and handling carbon dioxide in all its broad range of settings and applications should apply rigorous hazard management processes and have a clear understanding of CO2 behaviours and properties.
That was the key conclusion from a webinar hosted by certification and assurance firm DNV yesterday.
Amid the industry rush into CCS, DNV said there was “no reason why major accident risks from CO2 cannot be low and well within acceptable limits” providing firms stick to guidelines on safety management at all stages, from process development to construction, commissioning and operational maintenance.
