Husk Powers 200 Communities In A Year, Doubling Solar Minigrids Fleet

Husk has achieved remarkable growth, doubling its portfolio of community solar minigrids in the past year. The company now operates in over 400 rural communities across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, providing electricity to more than 1.5 million people and 30,000 small businesses.Husk’s projects span rural India and Nigeria, generating a total of 20 MW of solar power and covering 2,500 kilometers of transmission and distribution lines. These efforts are helping to reduce environmental impact by displacing approximately 3,000 diesel generators, cutting 15,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Manoj Sinha, CEO and Co-Founder, stated, “Husk is the first and only company to add hundreds of new minigrids in a calendar year. This proves that, with the right policies, affordable and long-term capital and innovation, the industry is capable of scaling to the thousands per year that are needed to wipe out energy poverty in Africa and Asia. We look forward to deepening our public-private partnership with governments and funders to work even faster to make ‘prosperity for all’ a reality.”

Husk is gearing up for significant growth in 2025, aiming to double its revenue and expand its customer base by 2.5 times. To support this ambitious plan, the company has outlined a 100 MW project pipeline spanning multiple countries. Additionally, Husk is preparing for pre-IPO equity and debt financing in the latter half of 2025 to drive its expansion through the 2030s.

In 2023, Husk took major steps to scale its operations. It doubled its workforce to over 1,000 employees and introduced PRISM, an innovative containerized system designed to speed up deployment, enabling the installation of one minigrid per day. The company also ventured into the interconnected minigrids market, a move expected to generate hundreds of megawatts of capacity across Africa and Asia.
