Maharashtra Sets Guinness Record With 45,911 Solar Water Pumps Installed In One Month

The Government of Maharashtra has officially announced the successful completion of a Guinness World Records attempt under the “Magel Tyala Solar Pump” initiative, marking a historic milestone in renewable energy-driven irrigation. The state installed 45,911 solar water pumps within a single month, setting one of the fastest and largest deployment records globally. The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Aurangabad, where officials recognized the extraordinary scale and execution of the programme.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). It aims to provide reliable and clean irrigation facilities to farmers by enabling the use of solar-powered water pumps during the day and free household electricity at night. This large-scale solarization of agricultural land represents an important step toward reducing dependence on conventional power sources and diesel engines while lowering farming costs and improving rural living standards. The project has been widely praised for its direct impact on farmers and its contribution to sustainability and clean energy growth across Maharashtra.

Among the participating companies, Shakti Pumps (India) Limited emerged as the leading contributor, installing 8,846 pumps, the highest number achieved by any company involved in the programme. The company shared that this achievement reflects its engineering capabilities and commitment to supporting the national mission of clean energy adoption. The installation of such a large number of solar pumps in a short period underscores rapid progress in India’s renewable-powered irrigation transformation.

Officials highlighted that the programme provides farmers with long-term benefits by ensuring consistent daytime irrigation and reducing dependence on an uncertain power supply. The initiative aligns with national goals under the PM-KUSUM scheme, which promotes solar energy-based irrigation solutions to strengthen agricultural productivity. Farmers receiving solar pumps are expected to benefit from lower cultivation costs, increased crop efficiency, and improved water management.

Shakti Pumps’ Chairman, Dinesh Patidar, expressed pride in contributing significantly to the historic achievement. He said that every solar pump installation represents more than a technological improvement—it represents farmer empowerment and enhanced self-reliance. The company has consistently worked on large-scale solar pump installation across India under PM-KUSUM and continues to focus on sustainability and innovation.

The project marks a transformative moment for renewable agriculture in India. With 45,911 solar pumps installed in just one month, Maharashtra has demonstrated strong leadership in accelerating clean energy deployment for rural development and irrigation infrastructure. The achievement has set a benchmark for other states aiming to expand solar adoption and strengthen climate-resilient agriculture.
