The US state of New York has struck a strategic partnership worth at least $75m with Japanese semiconductor equipment maker Screen to advance research and development at the Albany NanoTech Complex, part of the state’s NY Creates innovation network.
Governor Kathy Hochul said the long-term collaboration, formalised in Tokyo this week, will strengthen US–Japan cooperation in semiconductor innovation and catalyse advanced chip-making research at the Albany facility.
Under the agreement, Screen will establish a new Advanced Technology Center of America at the Albany NanoTech Complex.
The company will lease about 10,000 sq ft of cleanroom space in NY Creates’ under-construction NanoFab Reflection building and 5,000 sq ft of office space, with more than $75m in expected R&D spending over the first three years of a planned ten-year partnership.
