UK-based climate tech company OXCCU has won the Startups 100 Sustainability Award for its efforts to develop the world’s “lowest cost and lowest emission” pathways to make sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The company and its technology stems from over a decade of research at the University of Oxford. Its aim is to convert waste carbon into SAF by combining the biogenic carbon and (green, if required) hydrogen in waste biomass or biogas and/or carbon dioxide from sustainable sources.
What makes the company different is its use of a patented iron-based catalyst. This eliminates the need for reverse water gas shift or e-methanol steps.
This reduces capital and operating costs and reduces the carbon intensity of the fuel.
