Bangchak Engages USC MBA Students on Energy Trilemma and Energy Transition Strategies

Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited hosted faculty members, students, and officials from the MBA program at the USC Marshall School of Business, United States, for a briefing on its business operations and perspectives on the global energy transition.

The delegation, led by Lloyd Vatanakovarun, was welcomed by Gloyta Nathalang, Senior Executive Vice President for Sustainability Management and Corporate Communications, along with company executives and staff.

During the session, Nathalang highlighted the complexities of today’s energy landscape, particularly amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East impacting global supply chains and energy prices. She emphasised the concept of the Energy Trilemma, noting the challenge of balancing energy security, affordability, and sustainability, with trade-offs required depending on timing and context.

Bangchak outlined its strategy to navigate these challenges by leveraging its strengths in refining, marketing, and biofuels, while transitioning towards a diversified and integrated energy portfolio that includes lower-carbon solutions. The company has also expanded its investments across regional and international markets, supporting growth in both operational scale and financial performance.

Discussions with students focused on how energy companies can manage the transition while maintaining resilience and unlocking new growth opportunities. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) was highlighted as a practical solution for decarbonising the aviation sector, building on existing infrastructure and value chains.

The engagement also explored decision-making under multiple constraints, the role of energy companies in addressing uncertainty, and pathways toward achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

The visit reflects Bangchak’s commitment to academic collaboration and knowledge sharing, offering students insights into real-world business strategies, investment approaches, and the evolving dynamics of the global energy transition.
