Atome has taken final investment decision on its 145MW green hydrogen-based fertiliser plant in Paraguay after finalising a $665m debt and equity package.
The Villeta project, which has been planned since 2021, is now due online by October 2029 and will supply with the full 260,000 tonnes per year of green calcium ammonium nitrate it produces under a 10-year deal.
The financing package comprises funding and $244m in from institutions like the United Nations, European Investment Bank, International Finance Corporation, Hy24, and more.
Atome expects construction of the plant to begin “shortly”, with Swiss engineering firm Casale leading engineering, procurement, and construction.
The London-listed company claims the Villeta project is a “commercial blueprint” for decentralised green hydrogen-based fertilisers at an industrial scale, after establishing a “de-risked, high fidelity” framework.
“This bankable industrial platform is set to revolutionise the global agricultural sector,” said Atome CEO, Olivier Mussat. “Villeta is only beginning.”
