Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVNGENCO1) has proposed three new floating solar power projects in Vietnam’s Lam Dong Province during a recent working session with the provincial People’s Committee. The projects are planned on existing hydropower reservoirs and are part of Vietnam’s adjusted Power Development Plan VIII, which focuses on green energy transition and sustainable development. The total planned capacity of the proposed projects is nearly 270 MW, with an estimated combined investment of around 4,400 billion VND.
According to the proposal, the first project is the Dai Ninh Floating Solar Power Plant located in Ninh Gia commune. This project is expected to have a generation capacity of approximately 96 MW and will require an investment of nearly 1,600 billion VND. The second proposal is the Ham Thuan Floating Solar Power Plant Phase 1 in La Da commune. This facility is planned with a capacity of around 100 MW and an estimated investment of 1,650 billion VND. The third project is the Da Mi Floating Solar Power Plant Phase 2 in Dong Kho commune, which is designed to generate about 70 MW with a projected cost of around 1,150 billion VND.
EVNGENCO1 and its subsidiaries are already operating several important hydropower facilities in Lam Dong Province with a combined installed capacity of nearly 1,615 MW. The corporation also has previous experience in floating solar development, having commissioned Vietnam’s first floating solar power project at the Da Mi reservoir in 2019. That project currently produces around 70 million kWh of electricity annually and has become a successful example for future floating solar developments in the country.
The proposed projects are expected to make efficient use of the water surfaces of existing hydropower reservoirs without requiring additional land resources. Besides generating clean electricity for the national grid, the projects are also expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to local economic growth through increased revenue generation.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Khoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNGENCO1, stated that the corporation has adequate financial capability and operational experience to complete the projects on schedule. Meanwhile, Mr. Le Trong Yen, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, appreciated the corporation’s renewable energy strategy and directed local authorities to support the required investment procedures. In addition to floating solar, EVNGENCO1 is also studying other renewable energy opportunities in Lam Dong, including wind, biomass, waste-to-energy, and pumped-storage hydropower projects for the 2026–2030 period.
