Urbanisation and ageing populations will drive gas demand in the global healthcare industry, according to French industrial gas major Air Liquide.
Under its new Beyond strategic plan, the company has targeted a further 400 to 600 basis points (bps) of operating margin improvements through 2030.
As part of this, Air Liquide plans to strengthen its home care models, digital monitoring platforms, and AI-powered solutions to meet surging healthcare demand.
Diana Schillag, General Secretary at Air Liquide, who oversees the global Healthcare business, said, “Our healthcare activity is a driver of robust growth and resilience for the group, as it is decoupled from industrial production.
“It will actually deliver a robust and resilient growth of plus 4% to 6% during the Beyond period,” she noted.
Air Liquide reported healthcare revenues of €2.24bn ($2.5bn) in H1 2026, up 4.2% from €2.19bn ($2.45bn) in H1 2025 .
The company said the rollout of value-added offers in medical gases and an increase in the number of patients in home healthcare supported this growth.
And Schillag expects further healthcare growth will be driven by serving emergency medical services, nursing homes in Europe, as well as the ambulatory surgery centres in the US.
“This will enlarge our portfolio of customers…by aligning our marketing and supply chain capabilities with home healthcare and industrial merchant, we maximise synergies and add value for the long term.”
Schillag highlighted that the structural shift from acute care at hospitals to home-based care is being accelerated by digital patient engagement in AI-powered augmented care.
“[Using] agentic AI, we… [are] accelerating operational efficiency and scalable growth through standardised global processes, data quality, and robust data governance.”
