European Energy Launches Cornwall’s 67.96 MW Solar Farm with 95 MWh Battery Storage, Aiming for 2027 Grid Connection

European Energy has begun construction of the Indian Queens solar and battery project in Cornwall, marking a significant step forward in developing a renewable energy site that combines large-scale solar generation with integrated storage. The project includes a corporate power purchase agreement (cPPA) for the solar output and a Capacity Market Contract (CMC) for the battery energy storage system, providing a strong commercial foundation in the UK market.Construction started in May 2026 and is expected to continue for roughly one year.

The project is planned to be connected to the grid during the first half of 2027.The development features a 67.96 MW solar installation designed to generate approximately 60 GWh of electricity each year. It follows a regional model where co-locating solar and battery storage improves overall performance and supports smoother integration with the electricity grid.

Secure offtake arrangements for the solar output are already in place, offering long-term revenue certainty and improving the project’s financial stability. In addition to the solar facility, the project includes a battery energy storage system with a capacity of 95 MWh. Integrating storage on site will allow the operator to better manage power delivery, take part in ancillary services markets, and increase the flexibility and resilience of the asset.

This combined approach supports both reliable energy generation and the ability to respond to changing grid conditions.According to Mark Evans, Vice President and Head of UK and Ireland at European Energy, the Indian Queens project reflects the type of integrated asset that is increasingly sought after in the UK. He notes that pairing solar generation with battery storage, supported by cPPA and CMC agreements, provides stable revenues while meeting evolving market requirements.

He also highlights the efficiency gained by operating both generation and storage through a single grid connection, along with the strong market interest in projects that are already under construction or ready to commence.Thorvald Spanggaard, Executive Vice President and Head of Project Development, emphasises that incorporating storage from the outset strengthens the overall investment proposition.

By combining solar capacity with a significant battery system, the project can capture multiple value streams and contribute to grid stability. He notes that this model is increasingly becoming standard practice for new renewable energy developments and is particularly relevant for investors looking for scalable, optimised assets.

Poul Jacobsen, Executive Vice President and Head of EPC, explains that European Energy is delivering the full engineering, procurement and construction scope for both the solar and battery systems. This integrated delivery approach allows optimisation across civil works, electrical infrastructure and grid connection activities. It also supports efficient project execution and coordination between the two technologies, while helping maintain quality control and long-term operational performance.

Once completed and operational, the Indian Queens project will contribute to the UK’s growing renewable energy capacity. It will provide a combination of contracted revenues and operational flexibility and forms part of European Energy’s expanding pipeline of solar and storage projects designed to meet investor demand for stable, integrated renewable energy assets across Europe.
