Top Stories Of The Day: Brookfield Launches Lumara; MNRE Revises ALMM Order; POWERGRID Floats BESS Tender; NLC Wins 900 MW Solar; PSPCL Plans Digital Net Metering and More…

Brookfield has launched Lumara, a new renewable energy platform backed by a US$600 million investment, reinforcing its long-term commitment to India’s clean energy sector. The platform will focus on accelerating the development, ownership and operation of renewable energy assets while supporting India’s ambitious decarbonisation goals. Lumara is expected to strengthen Brookfield’s renewable portfolio by driving utility-scale clean energy deployment and attracting additional capital into the sector. The initiative reflects growing investor confidence in India’s expanding renewable energy market and the country’s long-term energy transition.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has rescinded its March 2024 Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) order, allowing eligible pending solar projects to seek exemptions under specified conditions. The decision aims to address implementation challenges faced by ongoing projects while ensuring smoother project execution without disrupting supply chains. Developers with qualifying projects can now apply for exemptions in accordance with the revised provisions. The move is expected to provide greater regulatory clarity and facilitate timely completion of delayed renewable energy projects.

POWERGRID has invited bids for establishing a 500 MW/1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across multiple locations in India. The project is designed to strengthen grid flexibility, improve renewable energy integration and enhance power system reliability. The tender marks another significant step in India’s expanding energy storage market, reflecting increasing investment in grid-scale storage infrastructure. As renewable energy penetration continues to rise, large-scale BESS deployments are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring stable and efficient grid operations.

NLC India Renewables Limited has secured a 900 MW solar power project from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) through competitive bidding. The award significantly expands the company’s renewable energy portfolio while supporting Gujarat’s growing clean energy capacity. The project demonstrates continued momentum in large-scale solar procurement through transparent competitive bidding and reinforces NLC India’s position as a key developer in India’s renewable energy sector. The development also contributes to the country’s broader renewable capacity addition targets.

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has approached the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) seeking approval to replace conventional physical net metering agreements with digital contracts. The proposal aims to simplify documentation, improve administrative efficiency and enable a more streamlined consumer experience for rooftop solar installations. The transition to digital agreements aligns with broader efforts to modernise utility operations and support faster adoption of distributed renewable energy systems across Punjab.

The Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC) has invited bids to appoint a consultancy for evaluating 20 power tariff petitions. The selected consultant will assist the commission in technical, financial and regulatory assessment of tariff filings to support informed decision-making. The initiative is intended to strengthen regulatory processes while ensuring efficient handling of tariff-related matters. The consultancy assignment reflects the commission’s continued focus on enhancing transparency and improving regulatory effectiveness within the state’s electricity sector.

The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has approved Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited’s (GUVNL) proposal for short-term power procurement covering the period from August 2026 to March 2027. The approval is aimed at ensuring adequate electricity availability to meet anticipated demand while maintaining grid reliability. The decision enables GUVNL to procure power through approved mechanisms and supports efficient power supply management during the specified period, contributing to uninterrupted electricity availability across Gujarat.
