BP Appoints Ian Tyler as Chair With Immediate Effect as Company Moves to Strengthen Governance and Strategic Oversight

BP p.l.c. has appointed Ian Tyler as Chair of the company following an extensive search process that considered both internal and external candidates. Tyler will assume the position with immediate effect.

Tyler joined BP’s Board as a non-executive director in April 2025 and was appointed Interim Chair in May 2026. He brings extensive non-executive leadership experience across the oil and gas, natural resources and engineering sectors, having worked alongside more than 15 chief executives during his career.

Tyler currently serves as Chair of Grafton Group plc and Senior Independent Director of Anglo American plc. He has previously chaired Cairn Energy plc and served as a non-executive director of BAE Systems plc.

BP Senior Independent Director Dame Amanda Blanc said the Board had unanimously appointed Tyler, highlighting his experience in providing challenge and support to executive teams while maintaining strong governance and oversight for shareholders. She also said his leadership as Interim Chair had strengthened the confidence of the Board and executive management.

Commenting on his appointment, Tyler said he would focus on supporting the Board’s evolution and ensuring it has the necessary depth, experience and capabilities to deliver the company’s strategic priorities and long-term value creation. He also committed to regular and transparent engagement with shareholders.

Meanwhile, Dame Amanda Blanc has informed the Board that she will not seek re-election at BP’s 2027 Annual General Meeting. She will step down from the Board once a successor has been appointed as Senior Independent Director.

Tyler thanked Blanc for her contribution to BP and said he respected her decision to plan her departure after four years on the Board and following completion of the Chair search process. Blanc said she was confident that BP had a strong foundation with Tyler and CEO Meg O’Neill in place and wished the company continued success.
