Generate Capital Secures $117 Million MUFG Facility for 114 MW Community Solar Portfolio

Generate Capital has closed a $117 million term debt facility with financial institution MUFG to support the expansion of its community solar portfolio in the United States. The transaction marks Generate Capital’s first community solar financing partnership with MUFG and strengthens its network of institutional financing partners.

The financing will support Generate’s Community Solar Fund 11, which includes 18 projects with a combined capacity of 114 MW-DC across Illinois and New York. The funds are expected to help the company continue developing and expanding community solar infrastructure while increasing access to clean and affordable electricity for local residents and businesses.

Ed Bossange, Chief Capital Formation Officer at Generate Capital, said the financing expands the company’s institutional funding network and supports the growth of its community solar platform. He noted that the transaction demonstrates Generate’s ability to attract capital from major global financial institutions and leverage its platform for sustainable infrastructure development.

Fred Zelaya, Managing Director at MUFG, said the institution was pleased to partner with Generate Capital. He highlighted Generate’s experience in developing and operating distributed energy assets across the United States as an important part of the partnership.

The latest financing adds to Generate Capital’s strong financing activity during 2026. The company secured approximately $1.4 billion in financing commitments during the first half of the year. These commitments have supported investments across several sustainable infrastructure segments, including energy efficiency, battery energy storage systems, and community solar.

Earlier in 2026, Generate closed financing for a 104 MW community solar portfolio in partnership with Monarch Private Capital. The portfolio includes more than 15 projects and is expected to generate approximately $200 million in investment tax credits.

Generate also completed a $61 million senior secured U.S. Private Placement to finance energy efficiency upgrades for a major industrial customer. The transaction represented the company’s first 15-year construction-to-term 4(a)(2) private placement.

The company said its financing activity reflects continued institutional investor demand for sustainable infrastructure assets backed by long-term contracted cash flows. Generate Capital, founded in 2014, has raised more than $16 billion in capital to support energy transition projects, data centers, and power-intensive facilities.

The latest MUFG financing is expected to further support Generate’s community solar development activities in Illinois and New York while expanding its access to institutional capital for future sustainable infrastructure investments.
