UK-based creative paper firm GF Smith’s Colorplan range is now being manufactured by biomethane.
Emissions for a typical Colorplan specification have fallen from 1.50 to 0.6 kg CO2e per kg, a reduction of around 60%, the company announced at London Packaging Week this week.
Colorplan is designed and developed by GF Smith in Hull and manufactured in Italy. Including inbound transport, Colorplan emissions are still around 56% lower using biomethane.
Biomethane is increasingly being integrated into the paper manufacturing industry as both a renewable energy source and a sustainable strategy to reduce carbon emissions.
Italian paper manufacturer Fedrigoni group and fiber-based specialty materials firm Ahlstrom recently .
The paper industry is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for around 2% of total industrial emissions. This includes emissions from the production of paper and cardboard, which releases about 3.3kg of CO2 per kg.
