Adani Energy Solutions Secures Landmark ₹25,000 Crore HVDC Project to Strengthen India’s Renewable Energy Transmission

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL), India’s largest private transmission and distribution company and part of the diversified Adani portfolio, has secured its largest order to date—an approximately ₹25,000 crore High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) project connecting Bhadla in Rajasthan to Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. With this significant win, AESL’s total order book under execution now stands at ₹54,761 crore, further expanding its transmission network to 25,778 circuit kilometers (ckm) and increasing transformation capacity to 84,186 megavolt amperes (MVA).

The project was awarded to AESL under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism, with REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd. (RECPDCL) serving as the bid process coordinator. The project’s Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) was officially transferred to AESL on January 20, 2025.

Named “Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III Part I,” the initiative entails the development of a 6,000 MW HVDC system spanning approximately 2,400 ckm, with a transmission capacity of 7,500 MVA. The Bhadla-Fatehpur transmission line will facilitate the evacuation of 6 GW of renewable energy from multiple REZs in Rajasthan beyond Bhadla-III to key demand centers in North India and the national grid. AESL has committed to completing the project within 4.5 years.

Speaking about the project, Kandarp Patel, CEO of AESL, stated: “By enabling the seamless evacuation of renewable energy from some of India’s most challenging terrains and integrating it into the national grid, AESL is contributing significantly to the country’s decarbonization journey. We are committed to deploying the latest technology and best practices to ensure timely delivery with minimal environmental impact.”

AESL stands as the only private sector entity in India to own an operational HVDC asset, a preferred solution for efficient long-distance power transmission. The Bhadla-Fatehpur project marks AESL’s third HVDC initiative, following the successfully delivered Mundra-Mahendragarh project and the ongoing Aarey-Kudus project, which is being executed by its subsidiary, Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML).
