ADE Commits to Exceeding £180 Million for Rooftop Solar in UK Schools and Hospitals

Rooftop Solar

AMPYR Distributed Energy (ADE), a prominent investor in sustainable energy solutions, has announced its commitment to exceed the £180 million allocated by the UK Government and GB Energy for rooftop solar projects in schools and hospitals.

Recently, the UK Government and GB Energy revealed their plan to invest £80 million in funding to help 200 schools accelerate their progress toward net zero, and £100 million for installing rooftop solar panels at nearly 200 NHS sites. This initiative aims to harness the benefits of onsite renewable energy, lowering utility bills, and enabling the sale of excess energy back to the grid.

ADE’s announcement has gained widespread attention, emphasizing the opportunity to expedite the deployment of renewable energy in the UK. ADE is reaching out to Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and GB Energy Chair Juergen Maier to outline the crucial role private sector investment can play in complementing public funding and maximizing savings through broader rooftop solar investments in the healthcare and education sectors.

John Behan, CEO of ADE, emphasized that a collaborative approach between the public and private sectors is key to accelerating renewable energy adoption in health and education. He highlighted that funding models with no upfront costs offer significant long-term savings, allowing public funds to focus on essential services. ADE is prepared to match the £180 million commitment and work with GB Energy to enhance energy resilience and reduce costs. Behan noted that private sector investment ensures timely installation and ongoing maintenance for optimal performance.

ADE is supported by AGP Sustainable Real Assets, a global asset manager in renewable energy and real estate. Their funding model, powered by Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), ensures zero upfront costs for renewable energy technologies, with savings generated through reduced energy costs over time. The funding also includes the provision of lifetime maintenance for installations, ensuring long-term efficiency.

Behan assured that the company will maintain the solar installations, optimizing performance throughout their lifespan. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with the Government and GB Energy to provide a risk-free option that benefits taxpayers and the economy. Behan highlighted how private sector investment can drive cost savings in public services, expanding renewable energy access for over 32,000 schools and 215 NHS Trusts. He called for urgent attention to the untapped potential of private sector involvement.
