Ameren Missouri is reminding customers that they may qualify for a variety of assistance programs to help with monthly or past-due energy bills. The company also encourages eligible customers to apply for Missouri’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) through local community agencies.
While Ameren Missouri’s own support programs are available year-round, the deadline to apply for LIHEAP Energy Assistance (EA) is May 31, through the Missouri Department of Social Services. EA provides a one-time payment toward heating or cooling bills and does not require a disconnection notice. “We highly encourage anyone in need of energy bill assistance to apply for LIHEAP before funds expire. Those who qualify or may not qualify for LIHEAP can also apply for Ameren Missouri’s energy assistance programs,” said Linda Huntspon, CEO of CAASTLC. “If you’re uncertain or don’t know where to begin, please contact us as soon as possible.”
Customers facing a financial emergency may also be eligible for the state’s Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP). Winter ECIP is available through May 31, while Summer ECIP runs from June 1 to September 30. A disconnection notice is required to qualify for ECIP. “We understand some families may be experiencing economic hardship, and we are here to help during these challenging times,” said Joe Solari, vice president of customer experience. “In partnership with hundreds of community agencies, Ameren Missouri offers programs for customers needing assistance with their energy bill. Customers who may not qualify can also take advantage of flexible payment options and bill management programs.”
Ameren Missouri works with more than 800 local agencies—including the Community Action Agency of St. Louis County (CAASTLC)—to assist with applications for these programs. To learn more or apply, visit mydss.mo.gov/utility-assistance/liheap.
