Home-based respiratory care provider Baywater Healthcare has acquired UK medical gases supplier Medical Gas Solutions (MGS) in a move aimed at strengthening service resilience across the country.
MGS supplies a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen to public healthcare entities and private customers. The company is also a supplier to Baywater for oxygen cylinder filling.
The acquisition supports Baywater’s long-term planning for its cylinder-filling services, strengthening operational resilience and helping ensure continuity of supply for customers and patients.
“Bringing MGS into the Group strengthens our ability to deliver on that commitment while creating opportunities for future growth and innovation,” said Adam Sullivan, CEO of Baywater Healthcare.
MGS will continue operating as a separate entity from its existing locations, with no changes to day-to-day customer contacts or operational arrangements following completion of the transaction.
Baywater is part of Sapio Group, an international healthcare and industrial gases company with annual revenues of approximately €1bn ($1.1bn).
Baywater is the UK’s largest provider of NHS Home Oxygen Services. It holds the home oxygen contract for Wales and the West Midlands and works alongside other suppliers to support patients nationwide.
The service provides medical-grade oxygen to individuals with a wide range of conditions, including COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, severe asthma, heart failure and cystic fibrosis.
Last year, Baywater Healthcare’s Claire Hole spoke at the on how rising demand for high-flow and portable oxygen therapy in the home is adding pressure to healthcare providers and increasing safety risks.
To meet demand, the company delivers around 1.3 million cylinders annually, equivalent to approximately 1.6 billion litres of oxygen.
The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
