Exploration firm Blue Star Helium (Blue Star) has established regular helium deliveries at its Pinon Canyon plant in Las Animas County, Colorado.
It is now looking to commercialise the site’s carbon dioxide (CO2) production while securing further helium sales.
The company has delivered its third helium trailer under the with an unnamed US industrial gas company from the Pinon Canyon plant, with a fourth trailer on-site and being filled.
Blue Star confirmed its had been sold and left the facility in mid-July.
Following the delivery of the later in the month, Blue Star said helium production at the Pinon Canyon plant had stabilised at current production levels.
The plant is now expected to increase helium output towards full design capacity through a combination of plant debottlenecking, gathering system improvements and additional well development.
As part of the next phase of development, the company is evaluating the potential to deepen existing wells and plans to drill three new wells to tie them into the Pinon Canyon plant, subject to permit approval.
Trent Spy, Managing Director and CEO, said, “Alongside helium sales, the company remains focused on securing a commercial solution for the significant CO2 product, which would represent a valuable secondary revenue stream.”
The commencement of CO2 liquefaction and sales, previously targeted for Q2 2026, remains subject to finalising commercial arrangements and completing additional plant modifications.
The plant modifications will enable CO2 to be produced into trailer transport.
The tie-in of the Jackson 27 well, which has CO2 levels of around 98.3%, is planned to coincide with the commencement of CO2 sales.
