Canadian carbon removal specialist CarbonCure Technologies has appointed Yuliya Kravtsov as CEO as it focuses on driving global growth in low-carbon concrete technologies.
Kravtsov has over 15 years of experience in the building materials sector, most recently working for building material provider CRH as Head of Integration, where she led strategic growth and post-merger integration across the Americas.
She has also held positions at cement majors Lafarge and Holcim, which are also exploring carbon capture technologies.
Kravtsov replaces interim CEO Kristal Kaye, who held the position since May 2025 following founding CEO Robert Niven’s transition to a board role.
Kaye will now transition to President and Chief Financial Officer, closely collaborating with Kravtsov.
“I’m looking forward to working side-by-side with Yuliya”, Kaye said, “Her building materials expertise and experience scaling high-growth divisions will be invaluable.”
CarbonCure’s solution for ready-mix concrete injects captured carbon dioxide (CO2) during concrete mixing. Upon injection, the CO2 immediately mineralises and is permanently embedded within the concrete, like rock.
Even if the concrete is later demolished, the CO2 won’t return to the atmosphere. The mineralisation also increases the concrete’s compressive strength, enabling concrete producers to optimise cement content and reduce carbon emissions with no impact on the product.
In April, the company surpassed 750,000 metric tons of CO2 reductions to date.
Cement is the most widely used substance on Earth, after water, and is responsible for around 8% of global CO2 emissions. The cement industry is one of the most polluting manufacturing sectors.
In numbers, if the cement industry were a country, it would be the third-largest emitter of CO2 in the world, after the US and China.
