The Department of Energy (DOE) has intensified its push for the full solarization of government buildings nationwide, urging solar PV installers to support the country’s clean energy transition.

Speaking at the first General Assembly of DOE-Registered Solar PV Installers at the Marquis Events Place in Taguig, DOE Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella highlighted the critical role of public-private collaboration in achieving national solar energy targets.

“The government is committed to creating an enabling environment for renewable energy, but we need your help to make this real. Let us aim for 100% solar installation in all government buildings,” Fuentebella said.

The move is expected to reduce power consumption in public facilities, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and generate green jobs across the renewable energy sector.

The event featured discussions on the DOE’s Solar PV Registry, policy compliance mechanisms, and the role of installers in ensuring alignment with existing guidelines. The assembly also facilitated updates on solar technologies, new regulations, and available government incentives.

Patrick T. Aquino, Director of the Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB), emphasized adherence to Department Circular No. 2024-06-0021, which mandates the integration of renewable energy solutions and energy efficiency programs in government infrastructures.

In addition, the DOE reaffirmed its commitment to expanding electricity access through Solar Home Systems (SHS) in remote and off-grid areas. Under the National Electrification Administration’s 2024 targets, 100,000 households are set to be energized, with a total goal of 154,000 by 2026, supporting the administration’s aim for full electrification by 2028.

The solarization initiative forms part of a broader clean energy agenda led by the EUMB and the Renewable Energy Management Bureau (REMB), aiming to streamline renewable energy processes and accelerate industry growth in the Philippines.
