Europe ‘on track’ with CO2 cuts but investment and policy gaps persist

The EU is “well on track” to achieve its 2030 climate goals but falling short in certain areas such as energy efficiency.

Europe has reduced emissions by 37% since 1990 and recent policy developments such as the will continue to drive decarbonisation.

The EU said it is “closing in” on meeting a net cut of 55% in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared with 1990 levels. Member states have mostly aligned their renewable energy goals with the EU’s binding target of 42.5% by 2030.

Dan Jørgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing, said, “We are moving in the right direction and if we compare with the last assessment from 2023 it is actually quite impressive how fast it is going.
