US semiconductor manufacturer Formfactor has secured a $24.2m state grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) for its up to $170m probe card manufacturing facility in Farmers Branch, northwest of Dallas.
The Farmers Branch facility will support the manufacturing of Formfactor’s core probe card products, which are used to test integrated circuits during wafer-level manufacturing.
Ultra-high-purity gases are used to support precision cleaning, material deposition, etching, and thermal processing in probe card manufacturing.
Mike Slessor, CEO of FormFactor, said the facility will support AI development through the supply of probe cards used in logic and memory chips across the global semiconductor value chain.
According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), semiconductors are Texas’ fourth-ranked export by value, totalling $19.3bn.
TSIF is administered by the Texas CHIPS Office. The grant programme was established in June 2023, following the Texas CHIPS Act legislation, and has since allocated $948m to support semiconductor research, manufacturing, and design in Texas.
