The Indian stock market witnessed a broad-based decline during the afternoon trading session, with benchmark indices coming under significant selling pressure. The Nifty 50 fell 1.54% to 23,085.60, while the S&P BSE Sensex declined 1.67% to 73,580.54. The weakness was also reflected across several companies operating in the renewable energy, power, infrastructure, and clean technology sectors.
Major large-cap energy and infrastructure stocks recorded notable losses. Reliance Industries declined more than 2% to trade at around ₹1,220.90 on the NSE. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) fell over 1.6% to ₹3,866.00. Renewable energy companies also faced selling pressure, with Adani Green Energy declining 1.68% to ₹1,279.10 and Tata Power falling 1.38% to ₹363.90.
Other companies in the green energy ecosystem also traded lower. JSW Energy, Borosil Renewables, and Olectra Greentech registered declines of more than 2% to 3%, reflecting the broader risk-off trend in the market. Juniper Green Energy recorded a 3.46% decline on the BSE, making it one of the major losers among renewable energy stocks.
Borosil Renewables followed with a 3.18% fall, while wind energy company Inox Wind declined 2.64% to ₹73.04. Battery and energy storage-related companies also experienced selling pressure. Amara Raja Energy & Mobility lost more than 2%, whereas Exide Industries edged down 0.07%.
However, the downturn was not uniform across the green energy segment. Several mid-cap and small-cap companies attracted buying interest despite the broader market weakness. EKI Energy Services emerged as the strongest performer, gaining 20% during the session.
Kabra Extrusion also recorded significant buying activity and hit a 10% upper circuit on both the BSE and NSE, closing at ₹806.10. Insolation Energy advanced around 1%, while GAIL gained approximately 0.5%, showing selective strength within the energy segment.
The contrasting performance highlighted a clear divergence across the green energy and power ecosystem. While large-cap companies largely moved in line with the broader market correction, selected smaller companies recorded strong gains on company-specific buying interest.
The market data reflected afternoon trading levels, with BSE prices recorded at 3:39 PM and NSE figures updated at 3:19 PM. Overall, the session was marked by broad market weakness alongside significant stock-specific movements across India’s green energy sector.
