JA Solar Delivers First Phase of Modules to 1GW SuoRong PV Project in Western China

JA Solar, a global leader in the PV industry, successfully delivered the first phase of its high-performance DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules to the SuoRong 1GW PV Project in Sichuan Province. Located at altitudes reaching 4,700 meters on the eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the project marks a key milestone in the development of the world’s largest renewable energy base.

The SuoRong project forms part of the Yalong River Integrated Hydro-Wind-Solar Base, one of China’s nine major clean energy bases, with a planned capacity exceeding 80 GW. In 2024, JA Solar secured 2.4GW of the 5.1GW PV module tender issued by Yalong River Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., including 808MW for the SuoRong project.

Subject to extreme cold, strong winds, intense UV radiation, and wide temperature fluctuations, the site is one of the world’s most demanding PV environments. JA Solar’s DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules are specially engineered with upgraded design, materials, and manufacturing processes to ensure reliable performance under such conditions. JA Solar’s technical expertise is widely recognized due to its strong track record in high-altitude applications.

To meet the project’s tight construction schedule, JA Solar executed a comprehensive supply plan spanning production, logistics, and on-site coordination. Despite the site’s remoteness, the company achieved smooth and timely delivery, once again demonstrating its industry-leading operational capability.

Once operating, the SuoRong project is expected to displace the use of around 590,000 tons of standard coal per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.63 million tons per year. It will contribute significantly to China’s carbon peaking and neutrality goals while delivering long-term environmental and economic benefits to the region.

Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar, said, “The successful delivery to the SuoRong project reflects our ability to support major renewable energy initiatives under the most challenging conditions. JA Solar is committed to providing high-performance PV products and solutions that will drive the global clean energy transition.”

JA Solar is building on the proven performance of its DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules and will expand its all-scenario PV solutions to meet the demands of diverse installation environments worldwide, from deserts and rooftops to high-altitude plateaus. By delivering reliable, high-efficiency products across all conditions, JA Solar shows its dedication to accelerating global sustainable development.
