Iran has stepped up attacks across the Middle East and targeted Kuwait’s energy infrastructure.
An attack on a power and water desalination plant caused widespread damage to the station.
Kuwait’s Electricity Water and Renewable Energy Ministry said in a statement the attack sparked a fire and “damage to a large number of electricity generation units”. The blaze has been extinguished.
It marks a worrying escalation, particularly at the height of a Gulf summer where power is essential for air conditioning, water supplies and other essential services.
