Meta Advances Clean Energy Goals with New Solar Agreements Covering 760 MW

Meta Platforms Inc. announced a deal on Thursday to purchase renewable energy credits from four major U.S. solar projects, supporting its goal of meeting clean electricity targets as demand from its data centers rises. The agreements, made with Chicago-based developer Invenergy, cover 760 megawatts (MW) of solar energy—enough to power approximately 130,000 homes.

The projects, located in Ohio, Texas, New Mexico, and Arkansas, will connect to the grid between 2024 and 2027, according to a joint statement by Meta and Invenergy. Instead of directly using the power, Meta will receive clean energy credits, aligning with its strategy to reduce its environmental footprint. “These projects will help us continue our commitment to support all of our operations with 100% clean energy,” Urvi Parekh, Meta’s head of global energy, said in a statement.

This move builds on Meta’s 2024 clean energy initiatives, which include partnerships with solar developers, a geothermal startup, and an open call for nuclear energy proposals. These efforts highlight the company’s commitment to powering its energy-intensive data centers sustainably.
