NHPC has partnered with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to promote clean energy innovations as part of India’s commitment to sustainable development and climate action. On November 28th, 2024, the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at NHPC’s Corporate Office in Faridabad. The agreement was signed by Shri V.R. Shrivastava, Executive Director of NHPC, and Shri Soumya Prasad Garnaik, Country Head of GGGI, in the presence of key officials from both organizations, including Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel) of NHPC, and Dr. D.K. Khare, Advisor at GGGI.

The focus of this collaboration is on advancing clean energy solutions that will contribute to India’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The partnership will explore areas like agrivoltaics (solar power integrated with agricultural practices), green hydrogen, and sustainable financing methods for green energy projects. These efforts align with NHPC’s ongoing research and development initiatives aimed at addressing climate challenges and supporting the country’s renewable energy goals.

Speaking about the collaboration, Shri Uttam Lal emphasized NHPC’s commitment to adopting innovative clean energy solutions and promoting sustainable development. He noted that the partnership between NHPC’s expertise in renewable energy and GGGI’s experience in climate resilience would drive impactful contributions toward a greener future for the nation.

This MoU also supports India’s broader climate objectives, as outlined in the Paris Agreement. Both NHPC and GGGI aim to explore new technologies, integrate renewable energy with agricultural practices, and drive investment in green projects. Together, they plan to deliver scalable, sustainable energy solutions that will benefit communities and support India’s renewable energy targets.

NHPC, India’s leading hydropower company and a Navratna enterprise, continues to focus on expanding its portfolio of hydro, solar, and wind projects. GGGI, an international organization dedicated to promoting green economic growth in developing countries, will bring its expertise to this vital partnership.
