reNIKOLA Holdings Sdn Bhd has been shortlisted to develop a total of 400 MWac / 618 MWp of solar capacity under Malaysia’s Large Scale Solar 5+ (LSS 5+) programme, a key initiative of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). The award comprises two projects located in Kemaman, Terengganu, that aim to support the country’s shift toward renewable energy while promoting environmental conservation.

The first project, a 250 MWac / 386 MWp solar facility, will be executed by a consortium including reNIKOLA, RE Chenderong Sdn Bhd (formerly RE Gebeng BKH Sdn Bhd), and the Anglo-Eastern Plantations Plc group (AEP). The second project, with a capacity of 150 MWac / 232 MWp, will be developed by a consortium of Antara Hijauan Sdn Bhd (a wholly-owned subsidiary of reNIKOLA) and AEP.

reNIKOLA stated that once commissioned by the end of 2027, the projects will supply clean energy to the national grid for 21 years, attract an estimated RM1.2 billion in direct investment, and create hundreds of jobs, reinforcing Terengganu’s emerging role as a green economy hub.

In a move that integrates renewable energy development with biodiversity protection, reNIKOLA announced plans to establish an Elephant Sanctuary Foundation as part of the 618 MWp solar development. The initiative will feature an Elephant Food Corridor planted with napier grass, bamboo, and bananas to provide sustainable food sources and guide wild elephant movements safely. The project aims to reduce human–elephant conflicts, promote conservation awareness, and encourage community involvement.

“This initiative demonstrates that clean energy, economic growth, and environmental stewardship are not competing goals, but powerful partners in building a truly sustainable future,” said Boumhidi Adel, Managing Director of reNIKOLA. He further noted that the LSS 5+ award represents a significant milestone for the company and a major boost to Terengganu’s green economy.

Datuk Seri Dr Harald Link, President of B.Grimm Power Public Co Ltd – a 45% shareholder in reNIKOLA – emphasized the importance of combining renewable energy development with ecological protection. “This achievement strengthens our commitment to power the world compassionately. By combining large-scale renewable energy with biodiversity protection, we are shaping a future where energy transition and sustainability advance hand in hand,” he said.

The projects are being developed in partnership with AEP, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. reNIKOLA described the collaboration as a demonstration of how traditional industries and renewable energy innovators can jointly accelerate Malaysia’s energy transition through responsible land use and climate action.
