STQC and NISE Sign MoU to Strengthen Solar Testing and Certification Ecosystem in India

In a move aimed at enhancing the quality and reliability of solar technologies in India, the Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification Directorate under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Solar Energy under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The MoU was signed on March 17, 2026, at the STQC Directorate in New Delhi, in the presence of the Secretary, MeitY, marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s solar testing and certification infrastructure.

As part of the collaboration, dedicated Solar PV module testing facilities will be established, with NISE providing technical expertise in designing, setting up, and operationalising the infrastructure. The partnership will also focus on capacity building, including training STQC scientists in solar PV module and system testing.

Additionally, both institutions will work jointly on advancing standardisation, testing, and certification frameworks for solar technologies. This is expected to improve product quality, ensure compliance with national and international standards, and boost confidence among stakeholders across the solar value chain.

The collaboration aligns with India’s broader renewable energy goals by reinforcing the ecosystem needed to support large-scale solar deployment. By enhancing testing capabilities and quality assurance mechanisms, the initiative is expected to drive innovation, improve system reliability, and contribute to the sustainable growth of the country’s clean energy sector.
