TSECL Invites EOI For 50 MW/200 MWh Standalone BESS Projects In Tripura

The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), a Government of Tripura enterprise, has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for setting up Standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the state. The plan is to install a total capacity of 50 MW / 200 MWh at the 33 KV level in multiple substations.

The main aim of the project is to support renewable energy integration, improve grid reliability, and manage peak power demand. Tripura’s current peak demand is around 378 MW, and it is expected to rise sharply to more than 690 MW by 2030. To handle this future growth, the proposed BESS units will help manage peak loads, especially during evening hours from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM, when demand is usually high and solar generation is low.

As per the project outline, each system will have a maximum discharge duration of four hours during non-solar peak periods and at least one hour of continuous discharge capability. Charging of the batteries will take place during solar hours. The power for charging may be supplied by TSECL or arranged by the selected developer. The corporation is considering a project tenure of either 12 or 15 years.

TSECL has invited technically qualified and financially sound agencies, developers, and manufacturers with experience in operating and maintaining similar BESS projects. Interested parties must submit company registration details, audited financial statements for the past three years, a concept note explaining the proposed battery chemistry and technology, and details of previously completed BESS projects.

The last date for soft copy submission is March 9, 2025, by 5:00 PM, and hard copies must be submitted by March 12, 2025, by 5:00 PM. The EOI does not mention any Earnest Money Deposit or Performance Bank Guarantee, as it is currently meant only for market assessment and not a final tender commitment.
