NovaAir Industrial Gases aims to lift utilisation of its freshly opened 300 tonnes per day (tpd) air separation unit (ASU) in Malaysia to over 90% within two years.
The international market brand of China’s Yingde Gases said the ASU located at the UMW High-Value Manufacturing Park in Selangor in Greater Kuala Lumpur would form part of its plans to make it one of Malaysia’s “top three” industrial gas suppliers.
, the ASU has a nameplate capacity of 300 tpd of liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid argon, with capability to produce high-purity hydrogen.
NovaAir said its ASU technology, developed by Yingde Engineering, would use AI-driven control systems to improve energy efficiency.
The liquid molecules will be supplied for chemical, electronics, food processing, and steelmaking applications.
“Industrial gases may be unseen, but they are essential to the industries powering Malaysia’s next phase of growth,” Malaysian Investment Development Authority CEO Sihk Shamsul Ibrahim said at the plant’s official inauguration on Tuesday (13 October).
He added that the plant would help strengthen domestic supply chains, industrial activities, and skilled employment opportunities.
The Kuala Lumpur plant adds to NovaAir’s existing ASU facility at Alliance Steel’s Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, where it operates three 20,000 Nm3/hr ASUs.
Malaysia’s growing electronics, semiconductor, and petrochemical sectors are driving industrial gas demand, with several suppliers expanding production capacity and distribution networks around the country’s manufacturing hubs.
According to . Malaysia has 110 gas production facilities, mostly congregated around Kuala Lumpur and the west coast.
Last week, Air Products announced it would build, own, and operate the country’s first to meet merchant demand.
